Last 20 minutes
I still have 20 minutes to go! I decided to use the time to analyze what I have learned, what I still have to learn and how would I do things differently if I had the chance.
I wanted to focus on listening, because that has always been my weakness. It usually doesn't come up when I'm having a conversation with a Finn in English, but I notice it when I'm watching a movie or listening to music. I think my listening skills improved. A couple nights ago I was at a bar and for the first time I figured out the lyrics to a song I have heard years ago for the first time! (I'm not telling which song, it's dirty.) I still could be better, though. But this summer I have a great chance to study more English, since I'll be abroad for a month.
I think I should have focused on writing a bit, too. I just sort of forgot about it, since I think it's clearly my strength. Or at least in matriculation exams and when practicing for it my best scores came always from essays. Well, I think that pupils in school are made to concentrate way too much on writing and reading instead of listening and talking, so maybe this was to compensate for it... And I did write this blog, so I had to write at least a little every time I did something.
I didn't focus on mathematical English at all. I have been kind of tired with school lately, so I decided that I can keep English separate from it. Also, I think that most of the vocabulary will come automatically, so I don't have to waste hours to study them. My minor is cognitive science, and those books are in English, so that would make no sense to study them separately, either.
All in all, I liked this course and I think I did learn from it. Sometimes I had times when I didn't know what to do, or what to study, but they all passed quite quickly.
I think I still want to be brave enough to actually talk in English. I usually am, but sometimes when someone is hearing me, it takes me a little to get the words out of my mouth. I have improved in that, too, though. So, all in all, I am happy with my perform.
